The SANDVIK COROMANT 6075408 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations. This insert carries a VCGX331AL geometry with a TiAlN2 PVD coating and a 35-degree diamond shape, making it well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing cuts on difficult materials. It measures 16.61 mm (0.6539 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.40 mm) corner radius. The AL chip breaker geometry is engineered to handle the demanding chip control requirements common when machining stainless steel and superalloys. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments.
This insert is intended for use in turning centers and CNC lathes running external turning applications on stainless steel (ISO material group M) as the primary workpiece material. Secondary applications include superalloys and titanium (ISO material group S). The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand toolholders compatible with VCGX-style seating. The screw-on insert holding method provides secure clamping and repeatable edge indexing. Maximum depth of cut reaches 16.21 mm (0.6382 inches), supporting both light finishing passes and moderate material removal rates on challenging alloys.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle powered down and the machine in an e-stop or lockout/tagout state per facility safety protocols. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to tighten the clamping screw — do not use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw threads for chips or damage before seating a new insert. Discard inserts when cutting edges show visible wear, chipping, or built-up edge rather than attempting to re-use a degraded edge.
