The SANDVIK COROMANT 6066611 is a CNMG643-SMR 1115 series turning insert designed for external turning operations on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It features a PVD-applied dual-layer TiAlN and AlCr2O3 coating that provides heat resistance and edge durability under demanding cutting conditions. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide in an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 3/64-inch corner radius. With four available cutting edges and a chip breaker designation of SMR, this insert is built for productivity in ISO material group M and S applications. Licensed HVAC and metalworking trades specify this grade for high-temperature alloy machining.
This insert is intended for use in T-Max P toolholders accepting CNMG-style inserts. Primary applications include finish and semi-finish turning of stainless steel components and difficult-to-machine superalloys and titanium in both production shop and job shop environments. The SMR chip breaker geometry is suited to moderate cutting depths and feed rates common in these material groups. The insert is held in place by a clamp and pin method, making it compatible with standard external turning tool bodies designed for CNMG geometry.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw to ensure proper edge presentation and prevent insert movement during cutting. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear or debris before each insert change. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications for CNMG-style inserts.
