The SANDVIK COROMANT 5962706 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in modular drilling systems that accept 881-series insert-style tooling. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert delivers wear resistance and heat tolerance in demanding drilling operations. It features a 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch) inscribed circle, a thickness of 3/32 inch (0.0937 inch), and a corner radius of 0.40 mm (0.0157 inch). The rectangular shape with a 7-degree relief angle suits precision hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Installation and indexing are handled by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC or manual drilling equipment.
This insert is suited for metalworking and machining operations in both production and job-shop environments. It is compatible with indexable drill bodies that accept the 881 insert style and size 2 inserts with a 2.50 mm (0.0984 inch) mounting hole diameter. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in structural steel, alloy steel, and similar workpiece materials where consistent insert geometry and coating durability are required. The 53 chipbreaker designation supports controlled chip formation during the cut.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT 881-series indexable drill bodies that accept size 2 rectangular inserts with a 2.50 mm mounting hole diameter. Verify insert style, seat size, and hole diameter against the drill body specification before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians with the spindle locked and machine power isolated. Use the correct torx or hex key to the tool manufacturer's specified seating procedure — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
