The SANDVIK COROMANT 5961361 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for threading and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ISO code 254LG-16CC01-215 1135 and belonging to the CoroThread 266 series, this insert features a PVD-applied TiCrAlN/TiN dual-layer coating that resists heat and wear during high-speed cutting cycles. It carries a cutting width of 2.15 mm (0.0846 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 1.85 mm (0.0728 inches), making it well suited for precision threading and shallow grooving passes. The left-hand orientation and neutral rake angle define its positioning and chip-flow geometry. Machining professionals and CNC operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is used in threading and grooving applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The CoroThread 266 series is engineered for external and internal threading operations where consistent thread form and surface finish are required. The multi-use designation means it can handle both threading passes and light grooving within its rated depth range. Typical applications include precision shaft threading, groove profiling, and similar turning work where tight dimensional tolerances are expected. The 1135 manufacturer grade and C chip breaker geometry are selected for controlled chip formation at moderate cutting parameters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for SANDVIK COROMANT CoroThread 266 series toolholders accepting insert seat size 0.375 and ISO insert style 254.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to secure the insert clamp to the recommended seating torque per the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper contact and accurate positioning.
