The SANDVIK COROMANT 5922171 is a square solid carbide milling insert designed for use in 490-series face and shoulder milling cutters. Uncoated and finished bright, it carries the H13A grade designation and is engineered for positive-rake cutting geometries. The insert measures 13.80 mm inscribed circle (0.5433 inches) with a thickness of 3.90 mm (0.1535 inches) and a 0.80 mm (1/32 inch) corner radius. The ML chip breaker geometry promotes smooth chip evacuation across a range of workpiece materials. Installation is by screw-clamp holding method. The part is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
This insert is intended for milling applications involving cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups K, N, and S. It is suited for both roughing and finishing passes where a positive rake angle is required to reduce cutting forces on difficult-to-machine materials. The 490 series compatibility makes it appropriate for indexable milling operations in machining centers and CNC mill applications across light manufacturing and precision machining environments. Typical users include CNC machinists and tooling specialists in job shops and production facilities.
Designed for use with 490-series indexable milling cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO catalog code: 490R-140408E-ML H13A. Insert size code 140408. Compatible with cutter series 490 as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the cutter body manufacturer's specified seating procedure to ensure the insert seats flush against the pocket walls and base. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new insert.
