The SANDVIK COROMANT 5915058 is a DNMG431SM-style indexable turning insert in manufacturer grade 1125, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and features a dual-layer PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCr2O3, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during high-speed cutting. Key dimensions include a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.4 mm (1/64 inch) corner radius, and an insert length of 15.5 mm (0.6102 inch). With a 55-degree diamond shape and neutral hand orientation, this insert suits a wide range of turning toolholders in the T-Max P series. It offers four cutting edges per insert.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel (ISO material code M) and is rated for secondary use on superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning of difficult-to-machine alloys in aerospace, medical device, and industrial manufacturing environments. The SM chip breaker geometry is optimized for stable chip control in these material groups. Secure clamping is achieved via clamp and pin holding methods. Maximum depth of cut reaches 6.4 mm (0.252 inch), making this insert suitable for light to moderate material removal passes on stainless and high-temperature alloys.
Compatible with T-Max P series toolholders designed to accept DNMG-style inserts with a clamp and pin holding method. ISO designation for this insert is DNMG 15 04 04-SM 1125. Verify toolholder pocket and clamping pin specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not substitute clamp screws or pins from other systems. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear, debris, or damage before seating a new insert, as pocket condition directly affects insert stability and surface finish results.
