The SANDVIK COROMANT 5915051 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it delivers heat and wear resistance suited to demanding cutting conditions. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch corner radius. The SM chip breaker geometry targets controlled chip formation. Machinists and tooling specialists install this insert into compatible CNMG toolholders for production and job-shop turning applications.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning stainless steel, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. These workpiece materials are common in aerospace, medical, chemical, and oil-and-gas component manufacturing. The T-Max P series is designed for external and internal turning, profiling, and facing passes where consistent edge integrity and chip control are critical. With four cutting edges per insert, it provides multiple indexing positions before replacement, supporting efficient tooling cost management in high-mix or production turning environments.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders compatible with the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series. ISO code CNMG 12 04 12-SM 1105 identifies the insert geometry for cross-referencing with toolholder manufacturers. Verify toolholder seat size and clamp-plus-pin configuration before installation.
Indexable turning inserts are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following machine lockout and spindle-stop procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Use the correct clamp and pin hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping force. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate ranges established for the grade and chip breaker geometry.
