The SANDVIK COROMANT 5915041 is a CNMG431-SM 1105 turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. The insert features a solid carbide substrate with a TiAlN PVD coating that supports high-speed cutting while maintaining edge stability under heat and abrasion. It carries an 80-degree diamond shape (C-code), a neutral hand orientation, and a 1/64-inch corner radius, making it well suited for general profiling and finishing passes. The SM chip breaker geometry is optimized to control chip flow and reduce cutting forces in demanding materials. Machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments will find this insert well matched to applications requiring consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
This insert is engineered primarily for cutting stainless steel (ISO material code M) and is rated for secondary use on superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). It fits into standard CNMG-style toolholders with clamp and pin holding, making it a direct drop-in for existing setups on manual or CNC lathes. The T-Max P series geometry supports stable cuts across a range of depths and feed rates typical in stainless and high-temp alloy turning. It is sold individually but subject to a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in standard CNMG-style turning toolholders utilizing clamp and pin insert retention. Primary workpiece compatibility is stainless steel; secondary compatibility includes superalloys and titanium. ISO code CNMG 12 04 04-SM 1105.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tool setters. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and verify clamp and pin engagement before resuming cuts. Do not use damaged or chipped cutting edges, as this can lead to unpredictable tool behavior and workpiece damage.
