The SANDVIK COROMANT 5909107 is a WNMG432SF 1105 grade solid carbide turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for precision metal-turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a TiAlN2 coating applied via PVD process, which provides heat resistance and extended edge life when cutting difficult materials. With an 80-degree trigon shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert delivers a balance of stability and chip control. The SF chip breaker geometry targets smooth, low-cutting-force applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the typical users.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel (ISO material group M) and is also rated for superalloys and titanium (ISO material group S). It is a neutral-hand insert, suitable for general turning, facing, and profiling passes where moderate depth of cut is required. Maximum depth of cut is 3.20 mm (0.126 inches). The T-Max P series is a Sandvik Coromant platform widely used in medium to high-volume turning applications requiring consistent surface finish and dimensional control.
Designed for use in WNMG-style toolholders within the Sandvik Coromant T-Max P series platform. The ISO designation for this insert is WNMG 08 04 08-SF 1105. Consult your toolholder documentation to confirm seating geometry, clamp type, and pin compatibility before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the toolholder. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to loosen the clamp screw — do not overtighten when securing the new insert, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket and locating pin for wear or debris before seating the insert.
