The SANDVIK COROMANT 5909100 is a carbide turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the WNGG431SGF H13A designation, this insert features an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a negative relief angle and a 0.40 mm (1/64 inch) corner radius. The SGF chip breaker geometry targets finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 3.20 mm (0.126 inches). Grade H13A is an uncoated carbide grade engineered for high wear resistance, making it well suited for cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and special and super alloys. Six cutting edges per insert extend service life. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders using a clamp and pin holding method.
This insert is intended for finishing applications on a range of workpiece materials including stainless steel as the primary material class, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. The T-Max P series is a general turning platform commonly found in production machining environments, both job shops and high-volume manufacturing cells. The WNGG shape with negative side clearance suits toolholders configured for that geometry. Typical applications include finish turning of tight-tolerance diameters and faces where surface finish and dimensional control are the primary objectives.
Designed for use in WNGG-style toolholders within the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P turning system. ANSI insert code WNGG432 and ISO insert code WNGG080402 should be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder bores and clamp styles. Consult the toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm clamp and pin hole compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torx or hex key at the manufacturer-recommended seating procedure to ensure the clamp and pin secure the insert without rocking. Inspect the insert pocket and pin bore for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can affect insert stability and surface finish repeatability.
