The SANDVIK COROMANT 5909001 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNGG432-SGF 1115 designation, designed for precision external and internal turning operations. It features a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and is coated with TiAlN and AlCr2O3 via a PVD coating process, providing thermal resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert measures 0.252 inches in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Part of the T-Max P series, this insert is intended for installation by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working on turning centers and lathes.
This insert is optimized for turning stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary capability on superalloys and titanium — materials that demand tight tolerances and heat-resistant coatings. The SGF chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip evacuation and surface finish are critical. It carries four cutting edges, making it cost-effective for high-volume production environments. The DNGG insert style with a clamp and pin holding method ensures secure seating in compatible toolholders throughout the T-Max P series platform.
Designed for use with T-Max P series toolholders that accept DNGG-style inserts with a clamp and pin holding method. ISO designation for this insert is DNGG150408-SGF 1115. Compatible toolholder selection should be verified against the DNGG insert style, 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and 3/16-inch insert thickness.
Installation is performed by a CNC machinist or toolroom technician on a turning center or engine lathe. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamp per the toolholder manufacturer instructions — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket for debris and wear before indexing to a new cutting edge.
