The SANDVIK COROMANT 5908963 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNGG432-SGF S05F grade, designed for precision metal cutting in demanding CNC turning applications. This insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during high-speed cutting operations. The diamond-shaped insert body carries an 80-degree included angle and a neutral hand orientation. With an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches, an insert length of 0.3346 inches, and a corner radius of 0.03125 inches, this insert is built for tight-tolerance finishing and semi-finishing cuts on difficult-to-machine materials. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install and index this insert as part of standard T-Max P toolholding systems.
This insert is rated for primary use on superalloys and titanium alloys, corresponding to ISO material code S. It is suited for aerospace, medical, and energy-sector turning applications where heat-resistant alloys demand a tough, wear-resistant cutting edge. The SGF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium depths of cut on these challenging workpiece materials. The insert offers four usable cutting edges, improving cost efficiency per edge in high-volume turning operations.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders that accept CNGG-style inserts with clamp or pin holding. ISO code equivalent is CNGG120408-SGF S05F. Intended for turning applications on superalloys and titanium workpiece materials (ISO material group S).
This insert is indexed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following standard toolholder lockout and machine stop procedures before any insert change. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket seating surface before engaging the clamp or pin to ensure proper support and edge repeatability. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw.
