The SANDVIK COROMANT 5891394 is a DNMG431SF 1125 grade carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on stainless steel and superalloy workpieces. Part of the T-Max P series, it features a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCr2O3 dual-layer coating that delivers high wear resistance while maintaining edge toughness. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, neutral hand orientation, and SF chip breaker geometry make it well-suited for consistent, controlled finishing cuts. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it offers extended tool life per unit. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is intended for turning applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary goals. It performs best on stainless steel (ISO material group M) and special or super alloys including titanium (ISO material group S), covering a range from moderate to high wear-resistance demands. Typical installation scenarios include external and internal turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in job shop, aerospace, and precision manufacturing environments. The SF chip breaker is specifically optimized for light, finishing-depth cuts on these difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed for use in DNMG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp or pin holding. Optimized for machining stainless steel (ISO M) and special or super alloys including titanium (ISO S). Refer to the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P toolholder lineup for confirmed holder compatibility.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and all drives disengaged. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert to prevent rocking or uneven contact. Clamp torque should follow the toolholder manufacturer specifications for DNMG-style clamping mechanisms. Index or replace the insert when surface finish or dimensional tolerance begins to degrade, not after catastrophic edge failure.
