The SANDVIK COROMANT 5891386 is a CNMG432-SF turning insert from the T-Max P series, manufactured in solid carbide with a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 PVD coating. It features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch (0.0313-inch) corner radius. The insert measures 0.3346 inches in length and 3/16 inch (0.1875 inches) in thickness. Designed for CNC turning operations, it is installed by machinists and tooling technicians working on lathes and turning centers targeting stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium workpieces.
This insert is suited for medium to finish turning of stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary applications in superalloys and titanium. The SF chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation in these demanding materials. It fits into standard CNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin holding methods. With four cutting edges per insert, it is appropriate for production and job-shop environments where tool cost-per-edge matters. The T-Max P series targets general external turning applications.
Designed for use in CNMG-style turning toolholders that accept clamp and pin holding. ISO designation CNMG 12 04 08-SF 1115. Primary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO material code M); secondary workpiece materials are superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). Part of the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before inserting to prevent improper seating. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear at each index.
