The SANDVIK COROMANT 5857587 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external thread cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert is part of the CoroThread 266 series and carries manufacturer grade 1135 with a PVD-applied TiCrAlN/TiN finish for wear resistance and extended tool life. It cuts right-hand external 60-degree V threads across a range of 8-16 TPI (1.50-3.00 mm pitch), making it suitable for a broad range of common fastener and fitting thread profiles. The insert measures 3/8 inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle and 5/32 inch (0.1563 inch decimal) thick, with a corner radius of 0.0079 inch (0.20 mm).
This threading insert is used in metal cutting and machining applications where external V-thread profiles are required on turned components. It is appropriate for production environments machining steel, alloy steel, and similar materials where a PVD-coated carbide grade provides consistent thread form and surface finish. The F chipbreaker geometry is suited for controlled chip evacuation during threading passes. CNC machinists, toolroom technicians, and precision machining shops are the primary users of this insert type.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT CoroThread 266 series toolholders that accept the 16-size laydown insert with a 0.1732 inch (4.40 mm) hole diameter. Verify toolholder seat and clamping style before installation. No additional specific compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamping screw driver specified for the CoroThread 266 toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat for debris or damage before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and thread form accuracy. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's setup guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures during all insert changes.
