The SANDVIK COROMANT 5857570 is a laydown threading insert engineered for external UN thread cutting on CNC and manual lathes. Part of the CoroThread 266 series, this solid carbide insert carries a PVD-applied TiCrAlN/TiN coating that extends cutting edge life in both dry and light-coolant threading operations. It produces right-hand external UN threads at 13 threads per inch, with a 60-degree included angle and a single tooth per side. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 5/32-inch thickness conform to the 266RG-16 insert standard. Machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert in compatible 266-series threading toolholders for production threading of steel, stainless, and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is suited for external UN threading operations in production and job-shop environments on turning centers and engine lathes. The 266RG style seats in laydown-type toolholders indexed to the CoroThread 266 platform. Typical applications include threading fastener blanks, hydraulic fittings, and general mechanical components requiring UN-standard thread forms. The chipbreaker geometry designation A supports standard-pitch threading without secondary chip-control tooling. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT CoroThread 266 series laydown threading toolholders accepting 266RG-16 style inserts. Consult the toolholder designation for correct insert-to-holder matching before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Disengage machine power and verify spindle stop before indexing or replacing inserts. Use a calibrated torque wrench and the correct insert screw to seat the insert fully in the pocket — do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or seating damage before each insert change to maintain thread-form accuracy.
