The SANDVIK COROMANT 5853463 is a round, solid carbide milling insert in grade S40T, designed for use in indexable milling cutters operating in demanding machining environments. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCrN, Al2O3, and TiN, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. It carries a 1-inch inscribed circle, a 0.5-inch corner radius, and a thickness of 0.3126 inches (7.94 mm). With 8 cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, this insert is suited for machinists and CNC programmers targeting tight tolerance work on difficult-to-machine alloys.
This insert is engineered for milling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — material groups M and S in ISO classification. It fits the R300 and RA300 cutter series and uses a screw-in holding method. The PM chip breaker geometry provides a positive rake for improved chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces on heat-resistant materials. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and profile operations on aerospace, energy, and medical components where surface integrity and tool life are critical. Machining centers and manual mills running appropriate spindle speeds and feed rates for grade S40T are the standard install context.
Designed for use in the Sandvik Coromant R300 and RA300 cutter series. ANSI and ISO designation: R300-2570M-PM S40T. Insert size code 2570. Screw-in holding method required.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the cutter body is fully de-energized and spindle is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the cutter body manufacturer — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
