The SANDVIK COROMANT 5846599 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Top Lok series, this right-hand insert carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, providing wear resistance in a wide range of workpiece materials. The cutting width measures 0.156 inches (3.96 mm) and the maximum depth of cut reaches 0.150 inches (3.81 mm). With a positive rake geometry and a corner radius of 0.078 inches (1.98 mm), the insert delivers clean groove profiles and controlled chip formation. It suits machinists and toolroom professionals working to tight dimensional tolerances in production environments.
This insert is suited for external grooving applications on conventional and high-speed turning equipment. The Top Lok series tooling system is commonly used in high-volume production shops and job shops requiring repeatable insert indexing. The positive rake angle and TLR chip breaker geometry support interrupted cuts and materials that generate long chips. This is a single-use-per-edge insert intended for right-hand cutting direction. Installation requires a compatible Top Lok grooving blade or holder accepting a size 3R insert seat.
Designed for use with Top Lok series grooving blades and holders accepting a size 3R insert seat. Compatible holder systems should accommodate an insert cutting height of 0.344 inches (8.74 mm) and insert thickness of 0.344 inches. Verify holder designation against ISO code TLR-3078R 1125 and manufacturer catalog number TLR-3078R 1125 before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all stored energy is released per lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert firmly into the holder pocket and confirm positive seating before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the insert size, and inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear at each index.
