The SANDVIK COROMANT 5781941 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand external thread cutting applications. Part of the CoroThread 266 series, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiCrAlN dual-layer coating that supports hard, wear-resistant cutting at elevated surface speeds. It is configured for 60-degree V-thread profiles at 12 to 24 threads per inch (TPI), covering a pitch range of 1.00 to 2.00 mm. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (9.53 mm) and the insert thickness is 5/32 inches (3.97 mm). This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators on lathes and turning centers performing external thread cutting operations in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for external threading on turned components in manufacturing environments where thread accuracy and tool life consistency are critical. The 60-degree V-thread standard covers unified inch thread forms (UN/UNC/UNF) commonly encountered in general industrial, fastener, and precision machined-component work. The C chipbreaker geometry and single-tooth-per-side configuration make it appropriate for controlled chip evacuation in threading passes. It fits toolholders and cartridges designed for the CoroThread 266 system with 16-size insert seating.
Designed for use with CoroThread 266 series toolholders and cartridges accepting size 16 laydown threading inserts. Manufacturers catalog number for this insert is 266RG-16VM01C001M 1125.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and the toolholder fully disengaged before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified for the CoroThread 266 holder to achieve proper insert clamping force — do not over-torque the clamping screw. Verify insert seating and thread-form alignment with a thread gauge before running production parts.
