The SANDVIK COROMANT 5781928 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the CoroThread 266 series, it is manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiCrAlN/TiAlN dual-layer coating that resists heat and wear during continuous threading operations. The insert produces right-hand external threads at 16 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 5/32-inch thickness, this insert seats securely in compatible CoroThread 266 toolholders. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for external UN threading operations on materials where PVD-coated solid carbide performs well, including steels and stainless alloys. The chipbreaker designation C and single tooth-per-side geometry make it appropriate for precision thread forms in both high-volume production runs and short-run precision machining. The 1125 manufacturer grade indicates a tough, wear-resistant carbide substrate optimized for threading at moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroThread 266 series toolholders that accept the 266 insert style with a 16-size insert code. The manufacturer catalog number for this insert is 266RG-16UN01C160M 1125.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified for the CoroThread 266 toolholder to avoid insert movement or seat damage. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping mechanism for wear or debris before seating the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for cutting parameters — do not exceed recommended depth of cut or feed rates for the 1125 grade.
