The SANDVIK COROMANT 5781915 is a laydown threading insert engineered for external UN thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the CoroThread 266 series, this solid carbide insert features a dual-layer PVD coating of TiCrAlN and TiAlN for heat and wear resistance at elevated cutting speeds. It is configured for right-hand external threading at 10 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 5/32-inch thickness conform to standard 266 series toolholder seating geometry. Machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, automotive, and general machining applications install this insert for consistent thread form and surface finish on UN-standard external threads.
This insert is suited for production threading operations where tight pitch accuracy and tool life consistency are required. The single-tooth-per-side geometry of the 266RG style delivers precise, repeatable thread profiles on external cylindrical workpieces. The A-style chipbreaker supports chip control across a range of feed conditions. It is appropriate for use on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where PVD-coated solid carbide tooling is specified. The insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it suitable for shop stock replenishment or production cell tooling builds.
Designed for use with CoroThread 266 series toolholders that accept 266RG-style laydown threading inserts with a 16 insert size code and a 0.1732-inch (4.40 mm) hole diameter. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and insert size code before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified for the CoroThread 266 toolholder to secure the insert without overtightening. Inspect the toolholder seat for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and thread accuracy.
