The SANDVIK COROMANT 5757938 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert from the CoroThread 266 series, designed for external metric threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This single-point insert cuts a 60-degree Metric thread profile with a 1.5 mm pitch and is coated with a PVD-applied TiCrAlN/TiAlN multilayer finish that improves wear resistance and tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. The right-hand orientation suits conventional external thread turning setups. With a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle and a thickness of 5/32 inch (3.97 mm), the insert seats securely in compatible CoroThread 266 toolholders used in precision machining environments.
This insert is intended for use in production and job-shop turning applications where repeatable, accurate Metric thread forms are required on external workpiece diameters. Typical materials include steel, alloy steel, and similar medium-to-hard workpiece materials where a Grade 1125 carbide substrate with PVD coating delivers controlled chip formation via the A-style chipbreaker geometry. It is installed and serviced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working on lathes and multi-axis turning centers.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroThread 266 series threading toolholders that accept the 266RG insert style with a 16 mm insert size code. Confirm toolholder bore and clamping configuration before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle stopped, the program halted, and all axes at a safe home position. Use the appropriate torx or clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert; do not overtighten the clamping screw. Verify insert orientation and seating before resuming any cutting cycle. Follow the machine tool builder and tooling manufacturer guidelines for insert indexing and disposal of worn carbide.
