The SANDVIK COROMANT 5756860 is a cermet, uncoated turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation WPMT 04 02 04-PF 5015 and belongs to the CoroTurn 111 series. The insert features an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a PF chip breaker geometry. With a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and an insert length of 4.34 mm, it is engineered for controlled-chip finishing and light roughing passes. Installation is performed by machining professionals setting up turning toolholders for steel and cast iron applications.
This insert is suited for primary use on steel workpieces (ISO material group P) and secondary use on cast iron (ISO material group K). The CoroTurn 111 series is designed for screw-clamped toolholders in external turning applications on both production and job-shop CNC turning equipment. The PF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and semi-finishing cuts where chip control and surface finish are priorities. The uncoated cermet substrate provides a sharp, consistent edge for moderate cutting conditions on ferrous materials.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 111 series screw-clamped turning toolholders that accept WPMT-style inserts with an inscribed circle of 1/4 inch and a 3/32-inch insert thickness. ISO code WPMT 04 02 04-PF 5015 governs toolholder pocket compatibility.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and all motion axes locked per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key for the clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as cermet inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excess clamping stress. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and repeatability. Dispose of spent inserts according to applicable shop waste and sharps handling policies.
