The SANDVIK COROMANT 5756336 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG style, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation WNMG 06 04 04-LC 1515 and belongs to the T-Max P series. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cutting. With an 80-degree trigon shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it is sized for medium to light turning passes. Grade 1515 targets steel and stainless steel workpieces. Professional machinists and CNC operators install this insert on tool holders designed for WNMG geometry.
This insert is primarily rated for steel workpieces (ISO material code P) with stainless steel as a secondary workpiece material (ISO code M). The LC chip breaker geometry is suited for light to medium finishing cuts where chip control and surface finish quality are priorities. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it compatible with both left- and right-hand tooling configurations. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profile work on CNC turning centers in job shop and production environments. The T-Max P series is engineered for consistent performance in medium-batch and high-volume turning operations.
Designed as an OEM-grade replacement insert for WNMG-style tool holders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch insert thickness, and a 0.150-inch hole diameter, per ISO and ANSI WNMG 06 04 04 holder specifications. Compatible holders must support clamp and pin insert retention.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp screws to seat the insert; do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the tool holder pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause premature edge failure or inaccurate positioning.
