The SANDVIK COROMANT 5756227 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert in the WCMX style, designed for use in indexable insert drills on machining centers, CNC lathes, and drilling fixtures. The insert carries a CVD-applied TiCN/TiN coating that provides a hard, wear-resistant surface layer suited to steel and cast iron drilling applications. Key dimensional callouts include a 0.5-inch (12.70 mm) inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch (0.1875-inch) thickness, and a 0.40 mm corner radius. The trigon shape with a 7-degree relief angle and chipbreaker designation 56 gives it a geometry suited to controlled chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. Installation and insert changes are performed by qualified machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert is sized for WCMX-style indexable drill bodies that accept an insert size 8 with a 0.1693-inch (4.30 mm) mounting hole. It is configured for right-hand cutting direction. The 56 chipbreaker geometry is suited to moderate-feed drilling in steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous workpiece materials. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it appropriate for shop-stock replenishment and tooling crib inventory where consistent insert geometry across a drilling program is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for indexable drill bodies that accept WCMX-style inserts with a size 8 designation, a 0.1693-inch mounting hole, and a 0.5-inch inscribed circle.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert clamp screw to the body manufacturer's recommended procedure — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Verify cutting direction and insert orientation against the drill body drawing before resuming operation.
