The SANDVIK COROMANT 5756140 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable insert drills in metal-cutting machining operations. Manufactured to WCMX insert style with a Trigon (7-degree included angle) shape, this insert carries a manufacturer grade of 3040 and features an MTCVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating for improved wear resistance and heat management at the cutting edge. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, thickness is 0.1563 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0315 inches (0.80 mm). Cutting direction is right hand. This insert is intended for installation by machinists and tool-room professionals working with indexable drill bodies compatible with WCMX-style seats.
This insert is suited for use in production machining environments where indexable insert drills are employed on CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, or manual drill presses capable of holding appropriate toolholders. The WCMX58 designation identifies the insert style and chipbreaker geometry, making it applicable for drilling into steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials in both roughing and semi-finishing contexts. The 3040 grade with TiCN and Al2O3 MTCVD coating targets applications requiring thermal stability and extended tool life under moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for indexable drill bodies accepting WCMX-style inserts with insert size 6 and a trigon seat geometry. Verify toolholder seat specifications before installation to confirm fitment.
Installation of indexable drill inserts should be performed by qualified machinists following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications for WCMX-style insert seats. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy is locked out before handling or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or insert-clamp wrench as specified by the toolholder manufacturer; do not use improvised tools that could damage the seating pocket or insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping hardware for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
