The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755988 is a VNMG331-MF 1115 series turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This solid carbide insert carries a dual-layer PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCr2O3, delivering elevated heat resistance and edge toughness at the cutting zone. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. The MF chip breaker geometry is engineered to produce controlled chip formation in demanding materials. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC turning specialists working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is optimized for machining stainless steel as the primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. These are challenging-to-machine materials that demand a sharp, tough cutting edge with reliable chip control. The T-Max P series geometry supports stable, consistent cuts in both roughing and finishing passes where edge integrity and surface finish are critical. The insert measures 0.638 inches in length and 3/16 inch thickness, fitting standard VNMG-style toolholders used in medium to light-duty turning applications.
Designed for use in VNMG-style turning toolholders that accept a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch thick, diamond-shaped insert. ISO designation VNMG 16 04 04-MF 1115. Intended for stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium turning applications in the T-Max P series insert system.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert firmly in the toolholder pocket using the appropriate clamp or pin method and inspect for proper seating before resuming cuts. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as edge failure in hard materials can result in workpiece damage or toolholder wear.
