The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755680 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a dual-layer TiAlN and AlCr2O3 coating applied via PVD process, which supports thermal stability and wear resistance at elevated cutting speeds. It features a 35-degree diamond (V) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 1/64-inch corner radius (0.0156 inches), and an inscribed circle of 3/8 inches (0.3750 inches). The UM chip breaker geometry is optimized for stainless steel, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. Screw-on insert holding keeps the insert indexed and secure during aggressive passes.
This insert is specified for turning stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, with superalloys and titanium as secondary materials. That combination of substrates makes it well-suited for aerospace, medical device, and process-industry component machining where tight tolerances and difficult materials are standard. The CoroTurn 107 series is commonly used in positive-rake toolholders for light-to-medium cutting depths. The UM chip breaker geometry controls chip formation in gummy, work-hardening materials where chip management is critical to surface finish and tool life.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series positive-rake screw-on toolholders that accept VBMT-style inserts. Verify holder bore accepts a 0.1732-inch (4.40 mm) screw hole diameter before ordering. ISO code VBMT 16 04 04-UM 1115 can be used to cross-reference compatible holders from other manufacturers.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state before touching the turret. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw — avoid over-tightening, which can crack carbide inserts. Inspect the pocket seat and screw threads for chips or damage before seating a new insert. After indexing, confirm runout and offset values at the CNC control before resuming cutting.
