The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755644 is a VBMT331-MF solid carbide turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 dual coating applied via PVD process, delivering heat resistance and wear protection suited to demanding cutting conditions. The 35-degree diamond shape (V) provides a sharp, low-force cutting geometry. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 0.638-inch length, and a 0.0156-inch (1/64-inch) corner radius, this insert is sized for medium finishing and light roughing passes. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in metalworking shops handling precision turned components.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel machining (ISO material code M) and is also rated for superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). The MF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and semi-finishing cuts where chip control and surface finish are critical. The neutral hand orientation suits a wide range of toolholder configurations. The ISO designation for this insert is VBMT 16 04 04-MF 1115, and it is held in place by a screw-type clamping system (clearance code B, tolerance code M). This insert is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
Designed for use with VBMT-style screw-on toolholders from the CoroTurn 107 series. Primary workpiece compatibility is stainless steel (ISO M); secondary compatibility includes superalloys and titanium (ISO S). ISO designation VBMT 16 04 04-MF 1115 can be cross-referenced for toolholder and pocket matching.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Before indexing or replacing the insert, confirm the machine is in an E-stop state and the spindle is fully stopped. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Verify insert seating and runout before returning the machine to cycle.
