The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755612 is a cermet turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision finishing operations on steel and hardened materials. Carrying the ANSI designation VBMT221 and ISO code VBMT 11 03 04-PF 5015, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive side clearance and a PF chip breaker geometry optimized for finishing. The cermet substrate is uncoated and delivers high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. The insert measures 11.70 mm (0.4358 inches) in length with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, making it well suited for light, precise cuts with tight tolerances. It is held in place by screw-clamping and offers two cutting edges per insert.
This insert is intended for use in CNC turning centers and manual lathes where surface finish quality and dimensional accuracy are the primary requirements. The PF chip breaker geometry is engineered for finishing passes at light depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 10.67 mm (0.4201 inches). Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and hardened materials (ISO H), with secondary suitability for cast iron (ISO K). Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the designated torque wrench for the clamping screw to avoid damaging the insert seat or the screw threads — refer to the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the specific screw size. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. When indexing to the second cutting edge, verify that the insert is fully seated and the clamping screw is properly torqued before resuming operation.
