The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755530 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT220-PF 1525 designation, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert features a PVD-applied TiCN plus TiN dual-layer coating on a grade 1525 carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting speeds. The 35-degree diamond shape (V) provides a sharp, low-force cutting geometry suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes. Insert length measures 0.428 inches with a 0.20 mm corner radius, and the PF chip breaker geometry promotes efficient chip control during light to moderate depth-of-cut applications. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible screw-lock toolholders.
This insert is part of the Sandvik Coromant CoroTurn 107 series, engineered primarily for turning steel and stainless steel, with secondary suitability for cast iron workpieces. It is used in production and job-shop environments for longitudinal turning, facing, and profiling operations where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across standard right-hand and symmetrical toolholder setups. Typical applications include shaft turning, spindle finishing, and contour turning on ISO material group P, M, and K components.
Designed for use in VBMT-style screw-lock turning toolholders within the Sandvik Coromant CoroTurn 107 series. ISO code VBMT 11 03 02-PF 1525. Compatible toolholders must accept a 1/4-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1102-inch (2.80 mm) center hole.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, power down the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before torquing the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris prior to installation, as contamination will affect insert seating and dimensional accuracy.
