The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755489 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. This insert carries a CVD-applied TiCN and TiN coating over a carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal protection during continuous cutting. It features a 35-degree diamond (V) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The UF chip breaker geometry is engineered for light to medium finishing cuts, producing controlled chip flow and consistent surface finish. It is seated and held by screw clamp in compatible toolholders.
This insert is suited for finish and semi-finish turning of steel and stainless steel workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The UF geometry performs well in light-feed, low-depth-of-cut applications where surface quality and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P), with secondary application to stainless steel (ISO code M). It belongs to the Sandvik Coromant CoroTurn 107 series, a screw-on insert system widely used in external and internal profiling work. The ISO designation for this insert is VBMT 11 02 04-UF 235.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders compatible with VBMT insert style. Intended for external turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and clamping screw specification before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer, and ensure the insert seats fully and cleanly in the pocket before tightening. Inspect the pocket and clamping components for wear or debris that could affect insert seating and runout.
