The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755291 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 111 series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation TPMT 09 02 04-MF 1125 and features a dual-layer PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCr2O3 for extended tool life in demanding cutting applications. The triangular insert geometry provides three usable cutting edges, and the MF chip breaker profile is engineered for finishing and semi-finishing cuts. With an inscribed circle of 5.71 mm and a corner radius of 0.40 mm (1/64 inch), this insert delivers tight tolerances and consistent surface finish. It is installed with a screw-clamp holding method and suits neutral-hand toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning steel as its primary workpiece material and is also rated for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as secondary workpiece materials. The MF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light-depth finishing passes where chip control and surface quality are critical. It is a common choice in production turning environments where consistent part geometry and tool change predictability are required. Designed for use with TPMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders in the Sandvik Coromant CoroTurn 111 system. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 5.71 mm inscribed circle triangular insert with a 2.50 mm hole diameter and 2.38 mm insert thickness. Primary workpiece material rating: Steel (ISO P). Secondary ratings: Steel, Stainless Steel, Superalloy, and Titanium (ISO M, P, S).
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque - do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and shim seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of flank wear, chipping, or surface finish degradation to avoid workpiece damage.
