The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755241 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn TR series, designed for precision turning operations on stainless steel and other difficult-to-machine materials. It carries grade 2025 with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides heat resistance and wear protection at the cutting edge. The insert features a 60-degree diamond shape (T-style), a neutral hand orientation, and a 0.79 mm (1/32 inch) corner radius. It is held in place by a screw-type clamping method and offers two usable cutting edges per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert in compatible CoroTurn TR toolholders for external turning applications.
This insert is suited for turning stainless steel workpieces in both production shop and job shop environments. The M-style chip breaker geometry is optimized for the interrupted and continuous cuts common when machining austenitic and other stainless grades. The ISO designation is TR-DC1308-M 2025, and the insert size code is 1308. Typical applications include external profile turning, facing, and light finishing passes where edge stability and coating adhesion are critical. The CVD coating process delivers consistent layer uniformity across the cutting edge, supporting predictable tool life in medium to semi-finish turning conditions.
Designed for use in CoroTurn TR series toolholders that accept TRDC-style inserts with a 1308 size code and screw-clamp retention. Primary workpiece material compatibility is stainless steel (ISO material group M).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and edge alignment.
