The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755223 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn TR series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes. The insert carries a dual-layer PVD coating — TiAlN and AlCr2O3 — applied over a 1125-grade carbide substrate. With a 60-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code T), a 0.4961-inch insert length, and an 11 mm inscribed circle, this insert is engineered for tight-tolerance turning where edge consistency and wear resistance are critical. It features a neutral hand orientation and an F chip breaker geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in screw-retained toolholders compatible with the CoroTurn TR system.
This insert is suited for turning steel and stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P and M respectively. The F chip breaker geometry promotes effective chip control at moderate feeds and depths of cut, making it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel components. The PVD TiAlN plus AlCr2O3 coating combination supports elevated cutting speeds while maintaining edge integrity on difficult-to-machine stainless grades. Typical applications include shaft turning, bore finishing on larger OD tools, and general-purpose profiling on horizontal and vertical CNC turning centers.
Designed for use in CoroTurn TR series screw-retained toolholders accepting TRDC-style inserts with a 1304 insert size code. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO code P) and stainless steel (ISO code M). Verify toolholder pocket geometry against ISO code TR-DC1304-F 1125 before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder torque specification listed in the CoroTurn TR toolholder documentation — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert or damage the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for debris or wear before seating the new insert.
