The SANDVIK COROMANT 5754878 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Cataloged under the ISO designation TPGN 22 04 08 H13A, this insert features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 1/2-inch (0.5000 inch) inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch (0.0313 inch) corner radius. Grade H13A is an uncoated, bright-finish carbide grade suited for high-speed machining of non-ferrous and cast iron materials where a sharp, clean edge is required. The insert is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder and carries a clearance code of P with a tolerance code of G. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or toolroom environments are the primary installers.
This insert is appropriate for external and internal turning, facing, and light profiling operations. The triangular geometry provides three usable cutting edges, making it an efficient choice in high-volume production settings. With an insert thickness of 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch) and an insert length of 0.8345 inches, it fits standard TPGN-compatible toolholders used across a wide range of turning applications in both job shop and production environments. The uncoated H13A carbide substrate is particularly suited for applications requiring a sharp edge with minimal built-up edge, such as finishing cuts on aluminum and other non-ferrous materials.
Designed for use in TPGN-style clamp-type turning toolholders accepting a triangular insert with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and standard 432 insert size code. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clearance angle requirements against the ISO code TPGN 22 04 08 before installation.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state per applicable LOTO procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamp are free of chips and debris before seating the insert to maintain proper cutting geometry. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque specifications. Inspect the insert for edge integrity before each use; carbide inserts are brittle and must be handled carefully to avoid chipping.
