Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 5754874 is a cubic boron nitride (CBN) turning insert with a titanium nitride (TiN) PVD coating, designed for precision turning of hard and difficult-to-machine materials. Carrying the manufacturer grade 7015 and belonging to the CoroTurn 111 series, this insert features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, an 11 mm insert length, a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. The screw-mounted, neutral-hand configuration suits right-hand and left-hand turning setups. It is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists working on hard-turning applications in production and job-shop environments.

This insert is suited for hard-turning operations on hardened steels and similar workpieces classified under ISO material code H. The CoroTurn 111 series is designed for external turning and profiling where tight tolerances and surface finish are critical. The ER-treated cutting edge with negative land geometry extends tool life in interrupted and continuous cuts on hardened materials. Maximum depth of cut is 1.80 mm (0.0709 inch). Typical applications include finish turning of bearing races, shafts, and hardened steel components where consistent dimensional accuracy is required.

Key Features

  • Cubic boron nitride (CBN) insert material for hard-turning of hardened steels and difficult-to-machine alloys
  • TiN PVD coating with manufacturer grade 7015 for thermal stability and wear resistance
  • ER-treated cutting edge with negative land geometry for extended tool life and edge security
  • Triangular insert shape (60-degree included angle) provides three usable cutting edges
  • Screw-mounted insert holding method (clearance code P, tolerance code G) for precise, repeatable seating
  • Maximum depth of cut 1.80 mm for controlled finish passes on hardened workpieces

Compatibility

Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 111 series toolholders accepting TPGW-style inserts with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle. ISO code reference: TPGW110304S01020F7015.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool turret is in a safe position before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. CBN inserts are brittle — avoid dropping or impacting the cutting edge during handling or mounting.
