The SANDVIK COROMANT 5753987 is a TNMG331-PF 1525 grade turning insert designed for precision lathe and CNC turning operations. The insert features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. It is manufactured from solid carbide and coated with TiCN and TiN via a PVD coating process, providing wear resistance and extended tool life on demanding workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard TNMG toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production and job-shop environments where tight tolerances and consistent surface finishes are required.
This insert is suited for turning steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. It carries the ISO code TNMG 16 04 04-PF 1525 and belongs to the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series, which targets general-purpose external turning applications in both production and repair machining environments. The PF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light roughing passes where chip control and surface quality are critical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for TNMG toolholder systems accepting inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and standard TNMG331 geometry. ISO code TNMG 16 04 04-PF 1525 can be used to cross-reference compatible toolholders per manufacturer documentation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians following standard insert-change procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before accessing the turret or toolholder. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw or pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the cutting edge and seating surface for chips or debris before resuming cuts.
