The SANDVIK COROMANT 5753466 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Top Lok series, this left-hand insert features a TiCrAlN and TiAlN PVD coating applied over a Grade 1125 carbide substrate, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert carries a 0.125-inch (3.17 mm) cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 0.110 inches (2.79 mm) and a corner radius of 0.0075 inches (0.19 mm). It is installed and replaced by machinists and toolroom technicians working on precision turning equipment.
This insert is suited for grooving applications in production and job-shop turning environments, including face grooving, parting, and profile grooving on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The neutral rake geometry and 10-degree rake angle support stable cutting performance across a range of materials. The TLG-2 insert style and Size 2 seat make it compatible with Top Lok series toolholders configured for left-hand grooving. Typical use cases include high-volume turning operations where consistent groove width and depth tolerances are required.
Designed for use with Top Lok series left-hand grooving toolholders accepting a Size 2 insert seat. ISO code TLG-2125L 1125 and manufacturer catalog number TLG-2125L 1125 can be used to confirm toolholder compatibility. Verify insert seat size and hand orientation against the toolholder specification before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Top Lok clamping tool or torx key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat and secure the insert properly. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut range of 0.100 to 0.150 inches (2.00 to 3.00 mm) for the toolholder and insert combination in use.
