The SANDVIK COROMANT 5753186 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the Top Lok series standard, this right-hand insert carries a manufacturer grade of 2135 and features a multi-layer MT-CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. That coating sequence provides a hard, wear-resistant base layer with an aluminum oxide thermal barrier and a gold-tone TiN top coat for edge condition monitoring. The insert delivers a 0.125 inch (3.17 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.150 inch (3.81 mm), making it well-suited for close-tolerance groove profiles in steel and alloy workpieces.
This insert is intended for use in high-volume production turning environments where consistent groove geometry and tool life are critical. The neutral rake geometry with a 10-degree rake angle supports stable chip formation across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The multi-use designation means this insert can be applied across grooving, recessing, and undercutting operations within its depth and width specifications. Machinists and CNC tooling specialists working in job shops, production facilities, or aerospace and automotive component manufacturing will find this insert a direct-fit consumable for compatible Top Lok toolholders.
Designed for use with Top Lok series grooving toolholders that accept size 3, 0.125 inch width inserts. Verify toolholder seat size and insert hand orientation before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as loss of seating integrity can result in tool failure and workpiece damage.
