The SANDVIK COROMANT 5753183 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Lok series, engineered for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a dual PVD coating of TiCrAlN and TiAlN under manufacturer grade 1125, delivering thermal resistance and edge hardness suited for demanding interrupted cuts and continuous grooving passes. The insert features a right-hand orientation, a 0.125 inch (3.17 mm) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.150 inch (3.81 mm). A neutral rake angle of 10 degrees and a corner radius of 0.0075 inch (0.19 mm) contribute to controlled chip formation and consistent surface finish. Installed by machinists and toolroom technicians, this insert seats into compatible Top Lok toolholders with no special prep beyond standard indexable tooling practice.
This insert is intended for grooving applications in general metalworking and production turning environments. Its solid carbide substrate and PVD coating make it well-suited for ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where wear resistance and dimensional repeatability are required. The TLG-3 geometry and 1125 grade are optimized for moderate to high cutting speeds. It is sold individually (package quantity of 1) and must be ordered in multiples of 10. Machinists working with tight groove-width tolerances and controlled depth requirements will find the 0.125 inch cutting width and 0.150 inch maximum depth directly applicable to common shaft and bore grooving tasks.
Designed for use with Top Lok series toolholders accepting size 3 insert seats. Verify holder compatibility using ISO code TLG-3125R 1125 and insert seat size 3 before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing this insert. Use the correct Top Lok clamping hardware and torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and accurate cutting geometry.
