The SANDVIK COROMANT 5753101 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Top Lok series, this right-hand insert carries a TiCrAlN and TiAlN PVD coating applied over a grade 1125 carbide substrate, providing thermal resistance and edge durability in interrupted and continuous cuts. The cutting width is 1.83 mm (0.0720 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm (0.0940 inches). A neutral rake angle of 10 degrees and a corner radius of 0.19 mm (0.0075 inches) make it suitable for tight-tolerance groove profiles in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. Machinists and CNC operators select this insert for finish-quality grooving where dimensional consistency is critical.
This insert is used in production turning environments where the Top Lok toolholding system is already in service. Typical applications include groove turning on shafts, bearing seats, retaining ring grooves, and similar features on medium to small-diameter workpieces. The ISO code TLG-3072R 1125 and manufacturer catalog number TLG-3072R 1125 identify the exact insert geometry and grade. The multi-use designation indicates the insert supports more than one cutting edge, helping reduce tooling cost per part in high-volume production runs. This insert is appropriate for both job shop and production floor use.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT Top Lok series grooving toolholders that accept size 3 insert seats. The ISO code TLG-3072R 1125 should be referenced when matching this insert to the correct toolholder and insert seat configuration.
Installation and replacement of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or insert-clamping key specified for the Top Lok toolholder to seat the insert fully and evenly - do not overtighten by hand without the correct key. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert to maintain accurate positioning. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidance as published in the toolholder documentation.
