The SANDVIK COROMANT 5751071 is a square SPMT-style indexable milling insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. It carries the manufacturer grade designation 4040 and the full ANSI code SPMT 432-WH 4040 (ISO: SPMT 12 04 08-WH 4040). The insert measures 0.5 inches in length and width, with a thickness of 0.1875 inches (4.75 mm) and an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches. A 0.80 mm corner radius and a WH chip breaker geometry make it suitable for moderate to aggressive milling passes. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers of this insert in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is designed for face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces and heat generation, supporting consistent chip formation across varying feed rates. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.4685 inches and four usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers an efficient cost-per-edge value in medium to high-volume milling applications. The neutral insert hand makes it compatible with both right- and left-hand cutter bodies.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the pocket seat and screw threads for chips or wear before indexing to the next cutting edge. Handle inserts with care — carbide is hard but brittle and can chip if dropped or struck against hard surfaces.
