The SANDVIK COROMANT 5749796 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI and ISO designation SEKR 12 04 AZ-WM 4230. It is designed for use in indexable milling toolholders and delivers a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for extended wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features a square shape with a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, and a 20-degree relief angle. With four cutting edges and a corner radius of 0.0591 inches (1.50 mm), this insert is suited for productive face milling and shoulder milling operations in steel and cast iron workpiece materials. It is typically installed by machinists and toolroom professionals in CNC or manual milling setups.
This insert is intended for primary use in steel and cast iron applications, covering ISO material codes P and K. The WM chip breaker geometry supports medium cutting conditions across a range of feeds and depths. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.2520 inches (6.40 mm), making it applicable to both roughing passes and semi-finish milling on ferrous materials. The SEKR series insert style and size code 1204 align this insert with compatible SEKR-style milling cutter bodies in standard toolholder systems.
Designed for use in SEKR-series indexable milling cutter bodies that accept size 1204 square inserts. Primary workpiece material compatibility is steel (ISO code P) and cast iron (ISO code K). ANSI and ISO code: SEKR 12 04 AZ-WM 4230.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the appropriate clamp and torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specifications for SEKR-style insert seats. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements during insert changes.
