The SANDVIK COROMANT 5748994 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCr2O3 dual coating that delivers high wear resistance while maintaining edge toughness. It conforms to ANSI insert code SCMT32.52 and ISO code SCMT09T308, with a 90-degree square shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. With four usable cutting edges and a positive side clearance geometry, it offers efficient material removal per edge during finishing passes on difficult-to-machine alloys.
This insert is suited for finishing operations on stainless steel, steel, superalloys, and titanium in both general-purpose and high-performance turning applications. The MF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light finishing cuts where controlled chip formation and consistent surface finish are priorities. It is well matched to ISO material groups M and S, making it a practical choice for shops running stainless and nickel-based superalloy components in aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing environments. The screw-holding method and standard tolerance code M ensure repeatable seating in compatible toolholders.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept SCMT-style inserts with screw clamping. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium per ISO material codes P, M, and S.
Insert replacement and seating should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating procedure when securing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Never force an insert into a damaged or worn pocket, as improper seating will affect tolerances and may cause insert fracture.
