The SANDVIK COROMANT 5748448 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance hole-making in steel, cast iron, and hardened materials. It features a 29/64-inch (11.50 mm) cutting diameter, a 140-degree self-centering point, and a TiAlN coating that extends tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The overall length is 4.6457 inches (118.00 mm), with a 2-flute regular spiral design that promotes efficient chip evacuation. Coolant-through capability supports higher feed rates and improved thermal management. This drill is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The 5748448 is built for drilling into steel, cast iron, and hardened workpiece materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. Its Series R840 designation places it in a family engineered for consistent, repeatable performance in both manual and CNC drilling applications. The straight cylindrical shank interfaces with standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification. A flute-to-diameter ratio of 6xD supports drilling depths up to 2.7953 inches (71.00 mm) in a single pass under appropriate cutting conditions.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with standard straight-shank toolholders. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, and hardened materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or removing the drill. Confirm the shank is fully seated and securely clamped in the toolholder or chuck before initiating a cut. Activate coolant-through flow before engaging the workpiece to prevent thermal damage to the cutting edge.
