The SANDVIK COROMANT 5747901 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding materials. It carries a TiAlN coating and a 140-degree self-centering point, making it well suited for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The drill runs in a right-hand, spiral flute configuration with a straight-cylindrical shank machined to a 10.00 mm diameter and held to an m7 tolerance. Coolant-through capability is built in, supporting higher feed rates and extended tool life in production environments. Machinists and tool-and-die shops reach for this series when standard HSS tooling falls short on hard or abrasive workpieces.
This drill fits standard CNC machining centers, drill presses, and live-tooling lathes that accept a 10.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank per DIN 6535HA. It is rated for an 8xD maximum drilling depth, giving it a 3.3071-inch usable flute length for through-holes and deep blind-hole applications. Primary target materials include ISO material groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and titanium). The two-flute, regular-spiral geometry aids chip evacuation in these materials when paired with appropriate coolant pressure through the spindle.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drilling machines accepting a 10.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank conforming to DIN 6535HA. Part of the SANDVIK COROMANT R840 series. Compatible with ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a precision collet or hydraulic chuck and verify runout before cutting. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Avoid side loads and interrupted cuts that can chip the carbide substrate; carbide drills are rigid but brittle compared to HSS alternatives.
