The SANDVIK COROMANT 5747866 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in R790 series face and square-shoulder milling cutters. Manufactured in an H13A uncoated bright finish grade, this parallelogram-shaped insert carries two cutting edges and seats with a positive 9-degree rake angle for reduced cutting forces. The insert measures 16.00 mm wide and 5.00 mm thick with a 0.50 mm corner radius, making it well suited to precision milling applications where tight tolerances and clean surface finish are required. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling technician typically selects and installs this insert on production milling equipment.
This insert is intended for machining non-ferrous metals, corresponding to ISO material group N and material grades K20, N15, and S20. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and ramping operations on aluminum alloys, copper alloys, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. The chip breaker style is NM and the cutting edge style is corner rounded, supporting stable chip evacuation at elevated surface speeds common in non-ferrous machining. The maximum depth of cut is 18.00 mm. The insert is single-sided and right-hand oriented, held in the cutter pocket by a screw-type clamping system.
Designed for use with R790 series milling cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO code: R790-220505PH-NM H13A. Insert size code: 220505. Cutter series compatibility: R790.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle powered down and the machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver specified for the cutter body to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten or impact-drive the screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before installing a new insert. Confirm correct insert orientation (right-hand) and chip breaker position before resuming cutting operations.
