The SANDVIK COROMANT 5747301 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding materials. It carries a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating and a self-centering 142-degree point that reduces walking and improves entry accuracy. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard chuck holders without adapters. At 8.20 mm in diameter with a 103.00 mm overall length, this drill fits CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines used in production and maintenance environments. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working to DIN 6535HA standards.
This drill is suited for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium - material group codes P, M, K, N, and S. The 7xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports deeper drilling passes relative to diameter, making it practical for through-holes and deeper blind bores in a single setup. Coolant-through capability allows internal coolant delivery to the cutting edge, which is critical when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium where heat buildup accelerates tool wear. The regular spiral flute promotes consistent chip evacuation across these material groups.
Designed as a high-performance OEM-specification replacement or direct tooling selection for CNC and manual drilling operations requiring an 8.20 mm solid carbide jobber drill in Series R840 per DIN 6535HA. Compatible with workpiece material groups P, M, K, N, and S as designated by the supplier.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the collet or drill chuck to the minimum insertion depth required by the holder manufacturer before applying cutting loads. Confirm coolant-through passages are clear and system pressure is set appropriately for the holder before initiating a cut. Never run this drill without the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material, as carbide is brittle and will fracture under shock loading from incorrect feeds.
