The SANDVIK COROMANT 5745701 is a solid carbide milling insert in the R390 series, designed for shoulder milling and high-feed face milling operations in metalworking environments. It carries a multilayer CVD coating - TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN - under manufacturer grade 4220, targeting steel, cast iron, and hard material applications. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a positive 25-degree rake angle and a corner-rounded cutting edge style, producing two usable cutting edges per insert. ANSI and ISO designation is R390-11 T3 08M-PL 4220. This insert is typically installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians on compatible shoulder milling cutter bodies.
The 5745701 is suited for use in both roughing and semi-finishing passes on steel and cast iron workpieces, as well as hard material grades. Its positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, making it a practical choice for general-purpose shoulder milling on machining centers and milling machines. The PL chip breaker is designed to manage chip flow in these material groups. Compatible cutter series include M-32 and R390. Insert size code is 11T308, and it mounts via a screw-holding method in right-hand orientation.
Designed for use in R390 and M-32 series cutter bodies per ANSI and ISO designation R390-11 T3 08M-PL 4220. Screw-mount holding method; verify cutter body pocket specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle powered down and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key driver specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the insert screw - do not overtighten. Inspect the pocket seat and screw threads for debris or damage before installing a new insert. Confirm insert orientation and hand designation match the cutter body before resuming operation.
